Positive expert opinion No.00-0865-19/PB (00-0078-19/PB) on project “interim storage facility for highly radioactive waste (HRW) which is returned from the Russian Federation after reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel of Ukrainian NPPs” was obtained from state enterprise “Specialized state expert organization-central service of Ukrainian state construction expert review” state enterprise “Ukrderzhbudekspertyza”.

Upon results of review of design documentation and elimination of remarks it was established that the above stated design documentation is developed in accordance with initial data for design subject to requirement to strength, reliability and longevity of construction project, its operational safety and MEP coverage, sanitary-epidemiological welfare of population, labor protection, fire safety, energy efficiency, estimates part of the construction project, and can be approved under established procedure. Design documentation was developed by means ВІМ (3D Building Information Modeling), that assures reliability and optimality of decisions made.

Design solutions will enable safe operation of the facility without deterioration of environmental situation and impact on the environment. UTEM specialists developed design of the storage (Basic design stage), overall production capacity 448 packaging canisters – that provides receipt and storage of 260 m3 vitrified HRW assuring 100 year storage period. Control of process steps and equipment of main and auxiliary systems will be conducted by means of remote control from panels located remotely from process equipment and areas of high radiation hazard.
